Round Pound. This site was excavated in the 1950s and as a result is thought to be the remains of a large roundhouse within a circular enclosure – one building within a farming community that was active around 400BC. Kestor Rock and trees at Batworthy Corner are on the horizon.
Right on the boundary between Chagford and Gidleigh parishes the remains consist of a large internal hut circle, of diameter about 12m, with wall thickness and height almost a metre with a paved entrance with its stone sill and steps to the south. This hut is encircled by an oval shaped pound, approximately 40 by 30 metres. The walls of this structure are massive, up to 4 metres in width and 2 metres in height, with its entrance made using large slabs to the northwest. Within this pound are the remains of several radial walls connecting between the central hut and the outer wall, with another smaller hut circle the northeast sector.
