Moor Park

Moor Park Hotel was built in 1869, originally called Niner’s Hotel after its proprietress Mrs Isabella Niner.

In an advert in the 1957 Chagford Guide Book it is described thus: “Chagford’s largest fully licensed hotel. When visiting Chagford to enjoy the beauties of Dartmoor stay at the ideal hotel. The Moor Park is on the edge of the town, in its own grounds, with uninterrupted views of the Teign valley. Here our visitors enjoy rest and quiet excellent food and perfect service, which is the charm of an  English Country Hotel. The Moor Park has H and C water and gas fires in all bedrooms, some with private bathrooms, three lounges, ¾-size billiards table, bowls and cocktail bar.”

In 1986 the hotel was converted to 14 two-bedroomed terraced houses, all except one having a small private garden, set in landscaped gardens that also provided parking. Prices were in the range £35-45,000 and advertising at the time states “the buyer acquires a virtually new home that retains the character of the former hotel”.
